Luke 5: 12 And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he
fell on his face and implored Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 13 Then He put out His hand
and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.
Are you tired of being in a place of complacency? Do you want the will of God to be seen in your life? A change can only
happen when we move from our broken state to a state of being made whole.
Truth be told we all have had a leprous period in our life. A time where it seemed like people could look at us and see our
scars, see our sores, see our sins.
I don’t know about anyone else but when I was younger I would fall and bruise all the time. I would run into the house and
show my daddy my “boo boo”. He would kiss it, put ointment on it and send me back on my way. I immediately felt better
because my daddy made my “boo boo” feel better. The next day I would notice scabs forming over the open wound.
EEEWWWW, the scabs seemed uglier than the wound so I would pick them off. My father set me down and said, Jessica
don’t pick your scabs! They are helping your wound to heal. If you move them you will leave a scar!
Many of us remove the scabs, trying to make our scars “look” better when God is trying to restore us, He wants us to be
made whole, He wants to take away the scar. In this account of the leper who came to Jesus asking to be made whole we
see three distinct characteristics that will help us through this holiday season; this time of year where we take a
retrospective look at our accomplishments and failures.
1. There’s a healing that only comes when we humble ourselves
a. The Leper knew his condition. He knew that he was sick and didn’t “deserve” to be loved by God! When we accept that
we are not all that we were made to be, we are then at the point where we know that we have to rely on the one who is able
to heal us, forgive us, and save us. His name is Jesus the Christ!
2. It’s all in you approach
a. In vs. 12 the Leper makes a simple yet profound statement, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” There was
no question! No question that Jesus could heal him. There is no question that Jesus can heal and forgive us. The plea is
“will he do it?” If you don’t know, the Bible tells us that God’s desire is that we all be made whole and brought into a
relationship with Him
3. Hear the Preached Word of God
a. Know that God speaks through His written and preached word! God has a plan for your LIFE! It’s important that you
know what God has said for YOU! He has made you with a specific purpose that only you can fulfill.
With these three characteristics the leper boldly when before Christ with a attitude of advanced gratefulness! Its with his
humility, his approach, and understanding that it is God’s will for him to be made whole that Christ compassion was turned
towards him. It was because of this approach that Christ did touch him and made him cleaned. It was only after he was
made whole that he was able in vs 14 to go to the priest, or better yet to be able to not only walk in Wholeness but in
Holiness.
We pray that you feel the love of Christ within your hearts. If you have not accepted Christ as your savior we pray that you
consider asking Him into your life today. Know that no matter your past God has a wonderful, wonderful future for you; One
full of peace, love, joy, etc.!
