Words of Wisdom, February 2010
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (New International Version)

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is
not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. But where there are
prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where
there is knowledge, it will pass away.

In my "younger" adult years I would often here my friends' concerns on "Singles
Awareness Day" better known as "Valentine's Day". It seems like people are more
aware of the relationship status during this time of the year. (I still find it peculiar
that a box of chocolates and cut flowers could make someone find self worth, if for
nothing but one day.)

Too often people stay in relationships where love doesn't abide. You are constantly
checking the text messages or facebook pages. Constantly asking where they have
been. Trying to cover acts that are regrettable. God never intended for us to have
meaningless relationship or "show" relationships. "'m just gonna stay with him
until after Valentine's" Sounds familiar? As you enter relationships you must seek
God and His Word first. If your definition of Love doesn't fall in line with I Corinthians
I pray that your reexamine yourself and your relationship. We want more than
anything for you to be healthy and in the will of God!

With this is mind I find it very important to remind us that Love, true Love Never
Fails. In fact, when read in I Corinthians 13:8 Love being used in the same context
as prophesying and speaking in tongues let's me know all the more that LOVE has
to be a SPIRITUAL GIFT! "What do you mean?" Without the Spirit of God, who is Love
(I John 4:16), we can't truly understand the fullness, the joy of, the peace of love.

It is our prayer that during this time that we celebrate Valentine's Day that we
recognize that Cupid doesn't have to draw back his bow for us to know how much
God Loves us, He showed us by giving His Son to Die for our sins! Know that while
chocolates are sweet, Jesus is sweeter than the honey on the honeycomb. Dinner
at a fancy restaurant may be nice but "as the deer panteth for the water my soul
longs for Him!"

If you have plans for Valentine's Day Enjoy them in the admonition of the Lord!

We challenge you, Give a Valentine to a stranger this week. Get a simple card and
inscribe John 3:16 on it. It may be the love that they are looking for!

We pray that this Word of Wisdom has been a blessing to you!
